Well done, debbond. I haven't fathomed the quotation yet, but am perplexed by two; 101A Writhing or wallowing (9) ??L?E?I?G ...is it Toltering, which is all I can find? ; and 102D Rather gloomy or dull in colour (7) ??E?I?? - first letter probably G. Oh and 14D ! More knowing or sly (7) ??E?I?R ...is it Creepier, perhaps. Thanks for any help.

Hooray, got the quote finally - but has anyone spotted theMOS boo-boo at the bottom where "even to shining" reads "even OT shining "?!? We'll forgive them for Christmas, eh, must have been hard enough compiling the thing in the first place.....Merry Xmas to all ABers GK

Just musing over 112 across - you mention outfeat and I;m toying with outwent.

Have looked at several dictionaries online and can't seem to find outbest.

Outfeat appears to surpass others in a feat and outwent on Encarta says " outdo somebody or something: to go beyond or surpass somebody or something"
