Can anyone tell me exactly what Reiki is? It seems to be the "in thing" (as my old nan would say) and I wanted to know if it's worth giving it a go. It seems to be all about the laying on of hands, but isn't that just massage?

Does it work? Can anyone do it or do you need special training? If so, how do you know who to go to? Bet it's expensive isn't it!

Sorry, I know, lots of questions under one heading! - lol

Thanks Maggie.

Now I know what it involves but have you (or anyone else reading) ever had it done. Can you give me any information from personal experience?

one of my mums friends practises this and she tried it on my mum once.

my mum has a very painful knee so her friend said she could help her. she didnt even tell her friend the exact place where the pain was in her knee and she found it straight away. after the treatment the pain had subsided dramatically!! it must work somehow!!

people who practice this dont even really touch the area of pain!!

hi there,

I've had it done and it was really relaxing and brilliant and I felt a buzzing feeling for the rest of the day. I also had cellulitis at the time and my leg was weeping - stopped it completely. It somehow helps your circulation. Although it is expensive it's damn worth it.

some of the reiki healers charge a great deal..when in fact you can go along to your local spiritualist church and get free healing..as they have a healing day once a week..its the same thing..i am very sceptical about reiki healers as a lot of people pay the money to train and then they over charge to reap it back..also anyone can be a reiki healer and a lot of them see it as an income!! i was disgusted to find one reiki master teaching kids reiki just so she could collect the fee money from them..they see money as energy!! so beware...anyone that is a genuine healer will do it for free..healing is supposed to be a gift..not an income..

Thanks to everyone who answered. I think I might be tempted to give it a go!
It's about readressing the energy balance and the chakras.

Hi Sarah

I have reiki about once a month now and I find its done me a power of good. I started about 6 months ago when I was suffering from fatigue and depression. The lady I see is actually someone I've known for years and we get on really well so I suppose a lot of the sessions are to do with talking things over.

During the sessions I keep all my clothes on and she covers me with towels then she merely puts her hands on various parts of my body from head to toe - front and back. It can be an amazing experience - I often see colours and shapes and I've even seen pictures. But basically its worth it for the relaxation benefits. I felt so much better practically immediately. It apparently works even if you don't believe it will.

I can thoroughly recommend reiki. It depends how much you value your well being as to whether you think its expensive - I pay 23 a session.

Go for it !

mullein...i'm not a practitioner but its all very well saying that it should be free but that doesnt exactly put food on the table. I presume you'll be expecting the nhs to work without pay next as they offer healing aswell.

I'm attuned to Reiki, and it is said that there should be an exchange for the treatment - not necessarily money.

I give Reiki to my family, they give me their love etc.....

As it was suggested above, there are plenty of churches who will have healing days

Reiki is fantastic and capable of amazing things. It is not a massage. There doesn't have to be any physical contact. The following link explains What is Reiki

It is proper Harry Potter stuff if you ask me. Remember though, you cannot learn this from a book. You need to be attuned to the energy.

Hope this helps.

Andy
