I don't think it'll ever stop though perhaps smoking habits would change. For instance I would love to grow my own tobacco and smoke what I can of that, rather than have to rely on it beign flown in from abroad.

Smoking will be as outdated as laudnum (which was very common 50 years ago) in 50 years time.

I have peered into my crystal ball and see we will all be chewing betel nuts.

I can totally see a time when nobody smokes and when it is considered totally taboo! It is getting that way already, with poor smokers having to stand outside buildings and pubs. Having said that, more teenagers smoke than ever, so unless we find a really good way to help people give up, or make tobacco less addictive, maybe it will be around for longer.

Yes, if my husband had never smoked he would be a fit man he now has clots in his lungs , and only half of his heart works as he was a 60 a day man . He is lucky to be alive , so I will never knock the NHS , as he's still here .

Yip I honestly think that as every generation dies off it will be passe (avec acute above the e -lol) and rather decadent.In other words I dont think there will be many smokers but I cant see drink going out of fashion (blush).

habits do change, but this one has been around for a very long time and I rather suspect it won't die out unless something similar replaces it - sucking crystals from the planet Werbl, for instance. People my age (Advanced Middle) don't smoke so much but young people seem to be taking it up still.

I see teenagers smoking and think don't do it !! I did it and quit but if you never start you will not have missed out on anything apart from smelling like a stinking ashtray .

I do think it odd when I watch 10-year-old futuristic sci fi movies where people are smoking aboard a starship in the year 2040 or thereabouts.
