Depends on whats in his packed lunch but I think he should avoid lamb.

I have labradors who get two+a half cups of dry food once a day. I would say three cups but it depends on your dogs appetite. I dont like to give my dogs tinned dog food at all as it is too rich+it gives them very soft poos which is not nice when you have to pick it up!!

Here in the states, Royal Canin markets a dry kibble specifically made for German Shepherds.  I know Royal Canin is an international brand, but I don't know if the breed specific foods are only available in certain areas.

I would check up on it and see if you can get it - Royal Canin is a very good brand (although not the best imho!) and the GSD kibble has been specifically formulated to appeal to the rather sensitive GSD palate.

My labrador eats an all-natural (no preservatives, no dyes, no fillers) kibble that I doubt you can get in the UK.  It's called Wellness.. probably the closest thing to it available over there would be Solid Gold Hundenflocken.
