I need to raise some money for a charity event so a friend and I were going to try busking, but we were wondering if you need a licence to busk ?
I went on Glasgow City Council's website and only thing I could find was a leaflet for street performers on conduct but it didn't metion anything about a licence.
Anyone happen to know ?
I don't think you need a license but you are not allowed to beg i don't think, and you mustn;t obstruct traffic or pedestrians or business entrances or if anyone complains the police can aSK YOU TO MOVE
We wouldn't be begging, just playing guitar and singing =]
Thanks, I think we'll go without a licence because as you say, I think the worst that could happen is that we would get asked to move.
And I don't think that would happen as there seems to be buskers on every street.
the best thing to do is to get some good fancy dress costumes and be well rehearsed and then you will really raise some money, but pick your spot well, and go for a busy saturday too, when there\ are plenty of people about and the police are busy with footie fans and drunks and shoplifters
In Leicester, anyone can busk, but there is a list of proscribed pitches where you can do so. You have to go to the council to get a permit for a set date, place and time, which you can often get on the morning of performance if it's not a busy time.
Best to phone the council up and check. You can ultimately be fined for busking without a permit.
I know what you mean cleversod, I do care about kids here but it's a whole other story over there.
Alot of children with disabilities in India are treated in the most disgraceful ways. One child from last year was 11 years old and have never left the family home because the mother was too ashamed of her.
I would help any charity over here but this is just something I've became involved in.

Yes, was basically just saying what dot said : Dont obstruct traffic being vehicle or pedestrian, dont be so loud that it would disturb offices or other workers, be at least 50 yards away from other buskers etc etc
Thanks Missy, had a read at that and think I'll give them a phone tomorrow and see whats what with existing licences.
And thanks thecorbyloon, everything I read and the more I read all seem to have different information so Im going to give the council a phone just incase, thanks anyway.
