I have a handle on the side of the bath that I would like to remove so that the Shower Screen closes properly, but it will obviously leave holes, which I would like to plug or cover with somenthing that is as flat as possible.

Can anyone help?

You may be able to buy plastic grommets to fit in the holes - from a hardware shop, or on-line.
I agree - they're the things inside your kitchen units that hide the heads of the screws holding it together.
Alternatively try gel-coat as used for the surface of glass-fibre boats.  You should be able to get repair kits in various colours from a marine chandler, and you'd get it as flush and smooth as you like.  I'm hoping to pop into a chandler's later today -- if I do I'll have a look at what's available.
