What is the significance of women having one fingernail painted gold and the others painted another colour?

At one time painting them red was the 'in' thing to draw attention.
Then came all the other colours...not to mention shapes, like Cher-inspired square tips.
People,men and women, now paint their nails and some have stones & small hooks implanted in their nails...
Maybe that gold nail was painted that way to draw attention...like it did yours.

Denisdiamond...I am sorry for my simplistic answer. I gave it because that is the extent of my knowledge on such matters.
I know there are signs and signals out there that I do not know because of my age.
If there is a message behind that gold-painted nail, I hope you find it.
I for one, don't know what it means.

It was just that I once heard that any girl who painted them in that fashion was a bit of a slapper or something in that vein, and there is a girl who started work in our local who wears them like that, and chacha, I am of that certain age myself ,so I was just curious.
