Its main issues were the struggle between Britain and France for supremacy overseas, and the struggle between Prussia and Austria for the domination of Germany. The British made substantial gains against the French in Canada and India, and the domination of Prussia was confirmed under Frederick the Great. The war was ended by the treaty of Paris and the treaty of Hubertusburg in 1763.
The British leader was Pitt the Elder (later Earl of Chatham) and he fought the war on the policy of depriving France of her colonies. This was not only a successful war pllicy but led to Britain's eighteenth century empire from 1763. French presence in AMerican and India (the carnatic and Pondicherry) were ended.
Pitt the Younger (his son but not his eldest son) tried a similar policy in the Napoleonic Wars with less success.
