Ever since I moved into my house when I initially run the tap in the kitchen it smells like rotten eggs. It now seems to do it in the downstairs bathroom too although not all the time. No-one seems to be able to tell me what the problem is. I don't want to have to pay to have drains cleaned if that's not what the problem is. Would be grateful if anyone had any ideas. Thanks.
i had the same thing, its where the waste from a washing machine or dish washer has been left open when the last tenants removed a machine and it needs capping off by a plumber or handy man, good luck
One common problem in bathrooms is the water trap in floor drains drying out. This allows sewer smell to escape. When water goes down another branch it can push the bad air out.
Put a bucket of water down any floor drains (or any other unused drains) to be sure.
Good plumbing runs the hand basin, shower or bath through the same trap to ensure it is topped up regularly. Unfortunately this is not always practical.
