I have to disagree in as much as dogs are not 'essentially a wild animal'. They are a domesticated carnivore. So they all have to potential to attack and do damage to another animal (or human).
The problem lies not with one breed (in this case the Rottweiler) but with the owners who have them - as has rightly already been said - as a status symbol...to make these owners seem more 'macho'. To make us all say 'WOW! Aren't they powerful?'
As long as owners like these have these strong powerful breeds but take no responsibility of training, socialising and keeping them under control, these 'accidents' will continue to happen.
But killing all Rottweilers will not stop the problem. Killing all these irresponsible owners would make more sense to be honest.
If you erradicate one breed, another one will take its place as the favourite for these cavemen.
And also not all Rotties are out of control, it all depends on if their needs as companion animals are met and if they are kept responsibly.
