Our Overseas ABers
4 Answers
I enjoy reading posts from overseas ABers but I am interested toknow what draws them to UK crosswords.
Is it that it brings them closer to home if they are used to live in UK? Or are UK crosswords more interestingly better than ones in their country? Maybe their country are not interested in doing crosswords.
Do they do the crosswords simply because they like doing them or is there some way they can get entries in by the closing dates?
Whatever the reason it makes the distances between us shorter and I'm all for that.

We do UK crosswords because the ones which are available here are what we call rather "Micky Mouse," and a cryptic crossword is a rare find indeed.
I'm not aware of anyone here doing crosswords and quizzes for charity so that's something new to us also.
I suppose it depends on a person's mind as to whether they want to do crosswords or not. Some folks love them, other hate them. Since joining this site we can honestly say we're totally addicted. I have learned a little about how to go about solving cryptic crosswords and find it absolutely fascinating.
I hope this answers at least part of your question? I'm sure other folks who don't live in the UK will have different reasons but those are mine and I think I speak for the rest of the gang here.
Happy New Year to you from Canada.

Hi Jenniferd, I didn't reply because the site has been so slow lately and also I was very busy yesterday and didn't come on until after midnight.
In my case I am English but living in Portugal. I don't know if the Portuguese do cryptics, but if they do I don't think I'd cope with the language, though I occasionally do an easy straighforward one to try to get a few more Portuguese words under my belt (not very successfully(. It's a challenge to get the entries in on time and I suspect I often don't make it, but I have won two or three prizes since coming here 3 years ago, so it obviously works sometimes.
