I-Pod Issues

I have had my I-pod for just over a year, and am having a few problems, just wondered if anyone else had, had a similar problem and if so is there anyway of rectifiying it. On some of the albums and playlists (not all) you select them, and it automatically flicks trhough the album to the end, and won't play. on the playlists it flicks through a couple of songs and then plays. - is there anyway of restting it, without loosing all the tracks that are in I tunes,. any help would be greatly appriciated. Firstly have you got the most up to date soft ware for it. A new lot has just been released with all the new bug fixes on it and you can do a factory restore from itunes without losing your tunes. Its an option given on itunes (on the newest version) when you sync your ipod.
