I think the display was more about showing off in front of other countries, course it was a waste of money but then again most things that are fun are....
I think its better than the majority of things this country wastes money on!
its a fantastic display!
a waste of money???? of course but why not once a year, we can afford it lol

personally i think the money could have been put to better use. we use the money to have a display to entice people to see it which inturn brings in the people who then get drunk cause accidents, fights and whatever they then have to have emergency services called which puts a strain on them who neednt be there in the first place and could be treating people who really do need the service.
seems like a drop in the ocean compared to the billions we're wasting to host the Olympic games.
we could allways go to war in an oil rich country and cost that in an couple of hours
lets waste some on us for a change

money well spent...
one firework display to show the world we are as proud of who we are as the rest of the world is....
remember the MILLENNIUM celebrations ????
we were the laughing stock of the modern world.
plus its estimated that 700,000 people attended...
i call that value for money !
:-)
Money well spent.

A drop in the ocean compared to single mum payouts.
London currently has the worse air pollution in the U.K, So Ken livingstone and his team has set out a london wide zone low emmision zone, his target is to reduce polution by 16% befre 2012,

How does all them fireworks and all that smoke going off help Londoners ?? in achieving this aim??, Much better to channel that money into something worthwhile , quango free and something that will benefit many more poeple for a long time rather than a short burst orgasm of light and noise and smoke polution of course ....
Well I thought it was lovely!

A waste of money? Sure, but New Year happens only once a year. Most of the year is filled with doom and gloom, I don't see a problem in having a 'frivolous' couple of hours. Afterall a million pounds spent on anything else (health service etc) would be only be a drop in the ocean anyway.
1 Million quid to make the UK proud! Priceless.
For ever thing else there's Mastercard.

For Gods sake get a grip, you are only here once so enjoy the moments of your life that wow you.

It's nice to have the rest of the world look to us in awe for a change.
