For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.personally i think the money could have been put to better use. we use the money to have a display to entice people to see it which inturn brings in the people who then get drunk cause accidents, fights and whatever they then have to have emergency services called which puts a strain on them who neednt be there in the first place and could be treating people who really do need the service.

How does all them fireworks and all that smoke going off help Londoners ?? in achieving this aim??, Much better to channel that money into something worthwhile , quango free and something that will benefit many more poeple for a long time rather than a short burst orgasm of light and noise and smoke polution of course ....

A waste of money? Sure, but New Year happens only once a year. Most of the year is filled with doom and gloom, I don't see a problem in having a 'frivolous' couple of hours. Afterall a million pounds spent on anything else (health service etc) would be only be a drop in the ocean anyway.
