can any one tell me why my computer keeps putting repeated asterisks automatically in field boxes without me touching the keyboard.

This is Internet Explorer's helpful function 'autocomplete'. A long time ago it asked your premission to remember passwords and form details and you (or someone else) said "Sure, ok!".

The asterisks are masked passwords or personal data that you have presiously enetered.

To edit this setting, open IE, go to the Tools menu and select 'Options'. Then press the Content tab and press the 'Autocomplete' button.
