I have 5 out of 60 questions left. All answers contain a bird species e.g Clue: Isle off Anglesey (6, 6) Answer: Puffin Island or Clue: Worn by the hanging judge? (8) Answer: Blackcap.
Have tried asking other friends and family but these are leaving us stumped even after searching the internet. I am very grateful to ANYONE who can help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks JMR27. Seems pretty obvious now. We gave up on the anagram thing as the race story counted 12 letters not 13 ... will certainly learn from that mistake!
