Stevie - opinions vary on this, but we have two doctors in our family, plus one who's near to qualifying. They all agree that if you have to have just one drink every day - then you're in the list of "social alcoholics" (which includes two of them then!!) - but I think the answer lies within each person. the point is - how long can you go WITHOUT a drink for?
I certainly don't have a drink everyday, but hell knows I always look forward to Fridays! And If I don't have a drink on friday, then it'll be on Saturday. Either day in the week end. Doesn't make me an alcoholic, does it?

And when I say a drink, I mean seven or eight pints....
No Max, it probably doesn't - but could you lay off drinking for three months and feel happy about it? The thing is, most of us drink at some time or other, but binge drinking is the most dangerous sort. It can lead the way to alcohol increase, a fatty liver and diabetes. So saying, I'd never tell anyone that they were drinking too much, but perhaps look at the reasons WHY they needed to throw it back. I don't think anything in moderation hurts, and is, basically, up to the individual.

Probably for the first time in years ive popped into my local over the last two days,a pool match and a dominoes meeting( just kidding,im not on the Mild just yet)...Had a couple of pints of cordial, 40p a pint.unbelieavable,im staying off the ale for a month, just to see if i can,and to be honest,it seems harder at home than in the pub...I got rid of all the booze in my house before the new year....
heavens - you don't sound like an alcoholic at all! Why did you post this question - has someone suggested something to you?
People who become dependent on alcohol to get them going, or need a drink to relax definitely have a problem. Unfortunately, when alcohol use becomes alcohol abuse, the problem is much more serious and they are classified as having a disease, an alcoholic one.

Not really Ice,i dont drink alot now, because i have my kids here every bit of free time i get, just know alot of my friends who drink every day, they'r all hard working folks, parents etc etc..I'd say we are all a good circle of friends, alot of us been mates since school..All in our mid 30's now.....One thing ive noticed amongst all of us,is that we all seem to like the Red wine, some of them as a couple drink a bottle or two between them a night, give or take one or two days a week..?? Can that be classed as Alchy?
Are you becoming fond of the bottle Stevie? I think you might be.
Stevie -if its any consolation I have thought at times how many people are honest about how much they drink -not a lot I can assure you.I used to have a drink I would say most evenings -not getting ratted but enough that I looked forward to it.
Then I decided that due to a specific reason (not health) I had to be completely tee total so i could jump in my car at any time of the day or night -so I abstained completely for say about 3 months -I now have a few glasses of wine -maybe 3 or 4 times a week -in fact some times I just start drinking water after a couple cos i cant be bothered.
So - IMO what you are doing is good -just abstain for a month then if you feel like having a tipple have one -but dont be guided by others-you be the best judge of whats right for you.
i drank a bottle of J D & 10 pints of cider a day & yes i was an alchy but have not had a drink for 2 1/2 years now feel a lot better for it.
tattoo -I felt absolutely brand new and still do physically -sleep a lot better as well.

BTW -good for you -couldnt have been easy.
not easy at all but glad i did it & your right sleep all night know.well done to you.
