Affordable insurance for a 20yr old male

Hello
My son is currently on my husbands insurance & wants to start his own in Feb on renewal. We know from past experience that this can be very costly at his age. Does any body know of any companies that give young people a reasonable price? To complicate matters my son was hit from behind in the summer, the lady drove off before he could get her reg. My husband has fully comp protected so this was no problem, but will it make a difference to my son?

I use sites like gocompare.com, moneysupermarket.com there are loads if you use a seach engine. I must add that my insurance has gradually come down over the years and now i drive a BMW 330 3 litre and the insurance is less than i was paying when i was 17 and driving a 1.3 litre Fiesta. So careful driving and no insurance claims pays off!
Other ways to reduce the price quoted include accepting constraints on the use of the policy. For example, limiting the number of miles per year that the insured will drive (my son has set this at 2500 miles because he drives less than this), and constraining the policy such that one is not permited to drive another vehicle even with the owner's permission (this prevents, say, a young person with a policy on a small Fiesta driving his dad's BMW on the Fiesta policy).
