I still don't think that fits the wording of the question. (Mind you, I haven't found anything else that fits!)

Was Robert the Bruce actually 'looking for' a spider's web? I thought he simply observed its persistent efforts and in retrospect drew inspiration from them

I know legend has it that the spider succeeded in making the web on its eighth attempt but ....I don't think the spider was 'inspecting' anything either
