has anyone been to naxos...where are the best beaches? is it bettter to stay in naxos town or near the beaches? is it very windy (meltemi) in august?? Can anyone recommend any other greek islands apart from santorini (been there, done that)

the meltemi isn't really a gale, more a steady sea breeze that takes the edge off the heat. I haven't been to Naxos but Ios, Mykonos etc, all in the same group, are broadly similar: golden sand, hot weather, warm water (depending on time of year, of course). Santorini is unusual in having black volcanic sand.
