I have a PS3 linked optically to my Sony Amp. When I play a blue ray DVD on the PS3 the DTS or 5.1 soundtrack is channeled optically through my amp and is excellant and of better quality as I'm told in the blurb it's not compressed ?!?!?!? The HDMI lead provides sound to the TV but I've opted through the DVD options to chanel the sound optically instead of through HDMI to my TV.
So I think the answer is Yes !!
