education maintenance allowance
2 Answers
Hi
I don't know if I can have Education Maintenance Allowance for my son paid into a savings account or if it can only be paid into a current account. If that's the case I don't know which bank would be willing to open one for a 16yr old, esp as I'm single parent low income.
Any advice please anyone? Thanks

It is best to open a card account for the child as book accounts have an extra reference number to quote when making payments into the account. The card can be a savings or current account, although at 16 most banks and building societies decline the request if it's a current account. There's no problem I know of with regard to having an account in the first place - just take relevant ID to your chosen place, not forgetting your son(!) and i'm sure you'll be fine.
