Targeting companies by geographical location
2 Answers
Hi - I live in Bristol and am looking to make a job move - ideally within one hour commute.
I have identified a number of strategies for moving things forward - including targeting companies directly. I want to compile a list of relevant companies to approach with targeted letters about me, my skills and what I can offer them.
Can anyone suggest a smart way of identifying well-known brands within a given radius (maybe within 10 / 50 and 80 miles radius)? If I had a map with well-known company names on, I would start drawing circles with my compass!
Grateful for any suggestions.

Thats a bit like the needle in a haystack approach. I think there's plenty of online resources that list companies within geographical areas, even something like Yell does it to an extent. You might be better though looking at the online job agencies where you can search for relevant companies that have vacancies within your area and targeting your cv better.
Thanks Twenty20. I had been looking at online search agencies, but only pulling up results for those with specific vacancies for me (which are pretty limited). However, if all I actually need is the company names, then, you're right, a wider search on all vacancies will give me a full list of names within the area, even if the role posted isn't relevant. Thanks very much.
