Elderly Expats returning from South Africa
4 Answers
My neighbours elderly parents want to return to England from South Africa after 40 years. They still have their UK Passports. They will be homeless and just living off a state pension. Does any ABer know what state housing may be available? Is there any avice available for such a situation?

I assume they are now coming back to good old Britain because the Health Care in South Africa is now too expensive for them. When they were away living the good life did they pay British taxes and British insurance. If they did I apologise for my ranting. If not I dont see why I should work and help to pay for their retirement.
Interesting question very similar to a situation with my parents in law now wishing to turn return from NZ.
To cover the rant - they did pay their tax;s for 20 years before being encouraged to leave by British companies expanding overseas. which is a lot more than many arriving in the UK today
Always kept British Passports and never taken any other residency etc but things not working out and want to return to UK.
Gov. and business encouraged to go -should receive some spport if it does not work out ?
