Is my hamster too old to have babies again?

I have a syrian hamster who is 11 months old and I would like to breed her again. Is she too old?

She had her first litter at 9 months old and she was a brilliant mother! The best hamster mother I've had so far. She was very patient and didn't fight with the babies at all. She is strong and healthy and coped well with her last pregnancy. She has now been on her own for 4 weeks without her babies. Can I breed her again? Or would it be a health risk for her?

At 11 months your hamster is in her prime. They usually live for two to three years if looked after.

Syrians tend to have large litters.

Physically she sould be ok, but can you guarantee to find good homes for all the babies? Think of all the poor little mites that are stuck in a cage for months on end and only being fed when the kids (or their mum) remember and being prodded and poked by sticky little fingers.
