would you ring in sick for a cold?

It is half past two AM - and I am still wide awake! Blame it on Lemsip Sinus Max which has caffeine! (caffeine always does this to me!)
I have a stinking head cold with associated aches. It is NOT flu but I still feel like SH*t!!!
Would YOU (any AB'ers) ring in ill? BEaring in mind the following:
It is not flu it is a grotty cold?
MONDAY is our very busiest day with patients?
There is no-one to cover me and if I ring in ill it will fall to my (really nice) colleague to do both her work and mine?
My manager is useless (chocolate teapot springs to mind) and will not help my colleague at all?
And of course - I am not good with sleep deprivation 9I start work in 5 hours and have had no sleep yet)
PS - I work for an NHS associated body - who are the least sympathetic of all employers when it comes to sick time off work. Lousy, lousy, lousy!

I think if you're bunged up with cold, it wouldn't be fair to pass it onto anyone else, so you deserve a day or two off. It's just unfortunate that your colleague'll have to do extra, but you can't help that if you really ARE poorly. Hope you soon feel better.

Hi Legend - yes, you have a good point, but not so if you end up giving everyone else - patients included - a nasty cold. There's a difference between just having a few sniffles, and then sneezing all over everyone. Also, if you're feeling rough, you can't give 100% to the job. Better to stay in bed and take whatever medication necessary, then get back to work when you know you can concentrate on it properly.
