Mobile phone reception

I have just moved into a new house where I get no mobile phone reception with my current provider Vodaphone. I am thinking of changing networks, is there anyway I can check my reception strength against my postcode?

This is really anooying, I know I'm on Virgin (who I was once told use the same transmitters as T-Mobile). To get a reception in building most people have to hang out of the windows. Although when people on other networks come round they have no trouble!

I had this trouble before, moved to a new area and T-Mobile would not work, although their website said "fair" signal. Turns out only Vodafone and Orange will work.

The only real way of telling is inviting mates round with their phone and seeing.
