Can anybody tell me why they put bits of tape over your eyes when you are going through an operation. Just watched the Royal today and thought I would write in

Anaesthesis is different to simply sleeping and in 6/10 people the eyes don't shut fully. Apart from spooking the surgeon out (!), tape is put over the eyes to shut them to prevent your corneas drying out, which can cause damage.

thanks for that for I have wondered about that for a long time and said to myself if I ever went through an operation I would not like that.
