Mental stimulation for my dog
7 Answers
I have just noticed two puppy dog eyes peering at me over the top of my laptop. He has just got back from a walk, the back door is open so he can run around the garden etc, he has been fed, he has a new chew BUT he is still looking at me as if to say "can we do something please?". can anybody suggest any mental excersizes I could try? Apart from the hide and seek one, thats lasts him all of about 3 seconds no matter where its hidden

You could get him a treat ball, pop a few wee treats in and let him work out how to open it? I know it isn't an immediate solution, more a future idea!
Maybe a scent game....fill an old sock with some strong-smelling treats, trail it round the house, hide it in one place for him to find (perhaps an extended hide and seek I suppose, sorry!)
You could do a short training session with him, that often works. Teach him to return his toys to where you keep them, or do a little agility work, twirls, and walking to heel in a figure of 8. I think you'll be able to find step-by-step stuff on the Net. x

He is actually 6 years old (approx) we got him as a rescue but you know what I mean with the "puppy dog eyes"! sooo cute. He is a mongrel but the Vet said he definately has Collie in him. He is such an intelligent boy! Ive taught him "paw", "sit", "stay" "fetch" etc but im going to try roll over & beg tonight. He catches on so quickly. Im moving soon to a house with a large garden, im going to set up some agility courses for him, I think he will love it! Ive heard of the treat toys, will invest in one and see what he thinks, thanks guys x
Have you seen Nina Ottosson dog toys, they look good for mental stimulation.

my dog does that all the time i usually teach him tricks its so funny how easily they get excited when you just sit them down and teach them something my dog has learned high five, sit ,lay down, stay, beg ,say prayers etc and it drains him mentally of all energy its amazing how they get so tired so i would suggest you try and teach him some tricks it works for me.
