I have just got off the phone with a friend. She is desperate for her husband to leave the marital home and kids as he is threatening and nasty, has been for over 12 years. He won't go. What rights does she have?
Btw it's not me; my marriage ended amicably last year. : )

If they share the house none at all, but if she owns it then she can get him out. Or if he becomes violent, she can get the police involved, but until then not much im afraid. At least thats what i think?

tell her to call the police shes put up with it for far to long no one deserives that abuse it hopefully will give her what she should have.happyness and a chance to move on hope it works out for her

If he is physically violent, she has the option of complaining to the police, or seeing a solicitor and seeking either a divorce or a restraining order, preventing him of being in the house. If his behaviour is also having a serious effect on the children, this is an added reason for her to take action now. I don't know whether your friend works, but if her husband is forced to leave the marital home, he will obviously have the additional expense of maintaining a separate roof over his head and this could well mean that he will either be incapable or unwilling to continue supporting her and the children financially. She needs to think about how she will cope in this situation and if possible, try and prepare herself to cope with.
