Watched Taggart last night and it set me thinking - are there any other TV programmes where the title character died years ago and is never mentioned in any episode?

Blake's 7 ( the actor didn't die, but the title character disappeared for a while ).

OK, but it's not really the same is it? Blake is mentioned in a lot of episodes, and the others are 'Blake's 7'.

With Taggart, if you hadn't seen or heard of any of the earlier episodes you''d never figure out the title

I just wonder why they don't just rename it ? Perhaps they could call it 'There's been a mudder!' - they say that every week
Coronation Street, I'm not very good at this, am I?
I watched it last night too. First time since said actor died.

Dire isn't it?

Question Author
You're right Galltin - I carried on watching hoping it would improve, but it didn't
The mercy killing story was apt for the programme itself - it certainly needs finishing off, before it gets any worse
The only otherseries I can think of is Dangerfield.I don't think the character died, and I don't know if hewas ever mentioned again, but Nigel Le Vaillant was replaced by Nigel Havers.Does this count?
wot about hopkirk and randall deceased, would that count
Randall & Hopkirk were private eyes. Hopkirk is murdered in the first episode & comes back as a ghost only his partner Randall can see and they continued to solve crimes together.

Regarding Taggart, I'm sure there are plenty of people who think that Taggart is Scottish slang for The Bill.
should have died with Mark Mcmanus. Nobody will ever replace such a great actor.
