Suprised a McDonalds!!

I took a food hygiene course on Monday and was shocked to hear about McDonalds....
First they have a 3 second rule that if something is dropped then they can pick it up and use it if they get it off the floor in 3 seconds!
also that the milkshake which i used to love (before getting diabetes type 1) is made with animal fat to thicken it up. OMG.

I thought all this and more about MaccyD's was common knowledge?
was it a McDonalds hygeine course?
At this moment in time, all mcdonalds milkshakes are suitable for vegetarians. So they can't contain the animal fat, I expect that is someone interpretting the nonmilk fat solids how they please. Mcflurries arent though as some contain cochineal.

As for the 3 second rule, thats a shady practise and I cant imagine they have that written up as an pfficial rule. In the eyes of an environmental health officer as soon as food hits the floor its contaminated. As a floor is never sanitised.

I wouldn't eat in MCdonalds, I'm not condoning it's general business practices but you have fallen for some urban myths by the looks of it.

(there are also no eyeballs in their beefburgers)

I thought it was seaweed that thickened the milkshakes ..
This from another forum......

"McDonald's milkshakes, along with a great many other products, contain a seaweed extract called carrageenan, which is used as a thickener and emulsifier. (It keeps the butterfat in the shake from separating out.) Carrageenan comes from Irish moss, a red, bushy seaweed that grows on coastal rocks near, among other places, Carragheen, Ireland, whence the name. (You can also find it in Maine, the Canadian maritimes, and various European localities.)

You either collect the stuff on the beach by hand or use a special long-handled rake. Carrageenan is extracted from the moss with hot water and used in milk-based products, soft drinks (for "body"), gelatin (it's the part that jells), etc. Not all that carcinogenic and what the hell, centuries ago they used it to treat ulcers. So hold your nose and swig away".

Plenty of E-numbers but no animals, I suspect they were pulling your leg.

I'm shocked it's only 3 seconds at McDonalds, it's a 10 second rule with me at home! LOL

If you're interested in knowing more about these fast food chains, read a book called 'Fast Food Nation', it's an eye opener for sure.
In the shortened recipe version, some of the fatty acids are labaled mono and diglycerides, which people wanting to think the worst in MAccy Ds assume is animal fats because it hasn't said so.

Very impressive dakota, if the dog doesn't lick it in our house, it's ok. Mind you thinking about it, you have to be a darn sight quicker than 10 seconds lol
LMAO! Thankfully for me, I do not have a dog now, but when I did, I'm in full agreement, you had to be very quick!

The dirt on the floor is probably more healthier than the burger
Irrespective of the hygiene in the 'restaurants' (I use that word lightly!), loads of my friends have worked in the factory where the buns are made and have a few stories to tell. The burger buns are on a fully automated system, so clean, but the breakfast buns are sorted by hand. Workers apparently wipe them on their foreheads when they get sweaty and stick them down their pants 'for a laugh'. And if they've not met their quota at the end of the day they fish out the ones dropped on the floor etc from the bins. Ew!
My god-daughter worked at McDonalds and I don't believe that about the 3 second rule. She told me how strict they were with hygiene, that if things had been cooked and not sold within a certain time they had to be thrown away, also if things were left out of the freezer/fridge for a certain length of time, or if they were unsure about how long things had been left out they had to be thrown away. Don't believe everything you are told (or read in the newspapers!).
I agree with Spudqueen, sounds like an urban myth
