It was started by Ron Hubbard, after he was ribbed by fellow Sci Fi writer, that, he wss "So disorganised he couldn't even start a new religion"!

It's a complete load of old tosh, even it's creator admited that, it does not however stop wealthy fools like Tom Cruise from joining in. Laterly it has become a haven for con men to steal money from gullible people who it is deemed need expensive "training" to correct their personality "faults".

Lonnie - or anyone else Do you know exactly what it's all about? What do they actually believe? I've read about it, but I can never quite get my head around it. It all seems very vague.

I'm not too sure how you distinguish between a religion and a cult, or how many offerings you accept before you become 'money-hungry'; these are mostly matters of opinion.

It was a long time ago, in the sixties, all I recall, was quite a few 'recruits', we had a seminar, of which i remember nothing, what I do remember, was that they then interviewed us singularly, I was in the forces at the time, and they wanted to know as much as possible, I had a primitive lie detecter attached, and they were asking me questions about the army, and the graph was jumping all over the place with my answers. eventually, I walked out, and reported what had happened, but I don'r thing the police or army took any action.

I got grabbed by one down Tottenham Court Road. They get you to do a questionnaire full of questions like, 'Do you think child abuse/genocide/racism/arms dealing/a n other obviously bad thing is good or bad?' and when you say 'bad', they conclude that only Scientology can save you.

About three weeks later I got grabbed again, and this time, I responded that, 'Yes, I did think child abuse/genocide/racism/arms dealing/a n other obviously bad thing was good'. Aparently the only thing that Scientology could save me.

Twenty years ago, when we were on a day trip to Brighton with our teenage daughter & her friend, the girls were stopped by Scientologists in the Lanes & innocently filled in questionnaires thinking that they were market research surveys. They were then pressurised into buying a book from these people. They hardly had any money on them so had to open their purses & count out small change to make up the amount required between them. When we met up later at an arranged point, the girls were very distressed.

Afterwards, for several years, both our daughter & her friend were innundated with mail from the Scientology Centre in East Grinstead. We finally arranged with the PO to return the mail unopened before it was actually delivered to the two addresses.

My advice is to steer clear and not be pressurised.

Thanks Lonnie, and jno. Scary. I started to read your link, jno, and thought, "Yes, this is what I think", but a little further on I thought, "Maybe not!!". I can understand people becoming embroiled in a philosophy, but with cults that make lots of money being so well publicised, surely anyone with any sense would hear the alarm bells ring?

Bet Ron L Hubbard and his top men live like lords as it's a cult , and people like Tom Cruise are gulliable , but also have to be with the " In Crowd " . Think I will hang on to to the �100k is was going to give them when I was accepted as a member !!!! Think the Cat Protection League are a better bet !!!
