Hi can someone explain simply how i can manage my favourites. As you know Xp you could just add a website to your favourites list etc how do you do this action in Vista? Many Thanks x

Do you mean your favourites in IE?

If so, I can't understand how it would be different in Vista - IE remains the same.

If you mean your google bookmarks, then your firewall could be blocking the function.

Hi Ethel, i think IE, on xp there was a drop down where you could just add whatever website you were on to the list. At present I have a fav button on the windows live toolbar which i don't want to use and a bookmark on the google toolbar i don't understand how either of them work. xp was so simple as i'm sure this is too just having a mental block i think. All advice greatly received x psHow would i unblock it if it was my firewall?

Like Ethel, I'm confused. Vista is the operating system, which is different to Internet Explorer (which is your web browser). Microsoft were forced, through multi-million dollar law suits, to keep the two things separate. Internet Explorer should look the same under any operating system. There should be a bar with 'File/Edit/Views/Favorites/Help'. Clicking on 'Favorites' should offer you the option to 'Add to Favorites'.

If you still can't find it, why not switch to the (far superior) web browser which is used by the majority of the 'regulars' here in AB's Technology section?

I too am puzzled. Vista comes with IE7 which doesn't have the tool bar described by Chris enabled by default, but it does have a favourites button, which behaves exactly as as Chris describes for the Favourites menu item. You can make the tool bar visible by clicking on Tools and checking Menu Bar. However, as Chris says, Firefox will provide you with a much better alternative.

My guess is that they were still using IE6 in XP and had never moved up to IE7.

In Vista then IE7 is the default.

Just in case you missed it in his update, Rojash said

"You can make the tool bar visible (in IE7) by clicking on Tools (top right) and checking Menu Bar."

Thank you thank you thank you. The toolbar was indeed not viisible and having followed all you guys instructions its now there. yes also you were right i did use IE6 previously because my old pc was running on not genuine xp which was pure ignorance on my part and would not let me update to ie7 . Think i'll wait till i'm fully conversant with this vista malarky before i go downloading any other forms of browsers lol. When i'm ready i;ll give you wonderfull peeps a holler.
