Example
In DSL (Digital Subscriber Line - also known by it's friendly name, Broadband!), a common NIC is an Ethernet Card, which serves as the interface to the modem from the computer.
The 100Mb relates to data transfer speed of the NIC. At optimum performance, the NIC in question would transfer data at a rate of 100 Megabits per second, which is a fast Ethernet operating speed (also called bandwidth). Since 8 bits make up a byte, this speed equates to 12.5 megabytes per second.
