Osmotic diarrhea results if the osmotic pressure of intestinal contents is higher than that of the serum. This may result from malabsorption of fat (e.g., in celiac disease) or of lactose (e.g., in intestinal lactase deficiency). Certain laxatives, such as lactulose and magnesium hydroxide, exert their cathartic effect largely through osmosis. Certain artificial sweeteners, such as sorbitol and mannitol, have a similar effect. Characteristically, osmotic diarrhea ceases when the patient fasts.

Maybe that's some help?!
Maybe it was summit they ate?
Think that's a very eficient answer!
The intestinal waste products pass through the small and large tracts in a soft liquid form .What makes it into a formed stool is that while it is stationary in the last part , before the rectum , it has a great deal of the water reabsorbed and drawn out of it . When there is an upset or an infection the contents rush through at a greater speed , and miss this last bit , by the contractions of the irritated bowel urging you to ....get the squits !
