Does anyone remember a kids TV character in the 70s/80s called Mumphy (I think)? He was a little elephant that wore blue dungeries with a red M on, if my memory serves me. The programme was one of those stop/motion animation series, a bit like Trumpton/Camberwick Green etc. Can anyone confirm that this was a character and that there was a show with it in?

Yes it was Mumfy the elephant

Mumfie was a marionette ( string puppet ) series, from Mary Turner and John Read, who set up their own company after Gerry Anderson ( whom they had been working for ) closed down his puppet studios when he turned to live action.

They also made the marionette version od Rupert the Bear, Cloppa Castle and the Munch Bunch.
