Registering death of missing person
1) Can anyone advise what period of time has to elapse before someone who is "missing - presumed dead" can be offially registered as dead. Also is there anyway of finding out the deatils of any such registration online or otherwise? The registration I am interested in probably happened in 1924.
2) Is there anyway you can find details of an inquest online or otherwise? I am interested in an inquest that would have taken place in 1921? - Thank you

the best way to look for the inquest details is to check the local newspapers kept in public reference libraries, coroners records were only kept for 30 years at that time
if u want me to find the entry so u can order a certificate email me the name and age and where they lived
[email protected]
should only take a few minutes

Hi - Thanks very much for looking. I had found that entry in Epsom in 1922, but Annie Alden who was married to Arthur E Alden definitely (as far as I can make out) died in Australia - the tree had some of her children living in Australia on it too. So I guess that maybe Arthur Alden didnt have to register the death - maybe he just got paperwork giving him permission to marry following the required passage of time of her disappearance(7 years). This is all supposition tho. I just need to know what the process is in these sort of situation (people going missing) and the time required before they are declared officially "dead". Thanks again anyway.
