Elvis had a wooden heart but wooden leg???
Question Author
thanks starmak, but apparantly there is out there somewhere a wooden-legged rock star!
Hi, just did a quick Google. Not even offering a hint. Will go other routes to see if it turns anything up. Looks like a very good question to file when we have the answer. I was fair ol' fan of music in those days...and would expect to know that.
Top rocker Gene Vincent permanently wore a metal brace on his leg after a motorcycle accident but I'm sure he didn't have a wooden leg.
Henri Bource, saxophonist for Melbourne rock band "The Thunderbirds" had his leg bitten off by a shark (he was also an underwater photographer). The band was formed in 1957 and played way into the 60's supporting Cliff Richard, Roy Orbison, Shadows, etc whenever they visited Australia. He had a false leg fitted and was back playing with the band within three weeks of the shark attack.

Perhaps this is your man???
I'm tempted to suggest Long John Baldry :)
jake the peg song .Rolf Harris sang it in the 60's
