Among the various protective programs I have I've been using the free version od Adaware with no problems for a couple of years now. However, when I tried to check for updates recently, I got the message 'error retrieving updates'. This went on for a couple of days, so I deleted the program and reinstalled it from scratch. The same message is still appearing. I've made no changes to my PC to affect this. Has anyone any idea what the problem can be, please?

Thanks, but having downloaded the newest version I'm still getting the same message.
I have just updated mine without problem.

Is your firewall blocking access?
Did you uninstall the SE version first ?

I checked the firewall, and cleared the PC completely of the old version. Thanks, Ethel and Paul, for your suggestions. I do like the program. It picks up little niggles that Spybot misses, I find.
Adaware will pick up things that Spybot doesn't - they are both designed to detect different threats - use both of them together with your chosen AV software and you should have no problems.
