Last night they showed the 'edited' repeat of Torchwood at 7pm 'suitable for children to watch'. As far as I could tell they hadn't edited much, I assumed they would reduce or remove the kiss between Captain Jack and Captain John. We watched with my 10 year old who is now slightly confused as to why Captain Jack was 'kissing a boy' . Although the declassified did give a good explanation.
Having watched the second episode later last night I'm wondering what, if anything they will edit for next weeks edited repeat as some of it was quite violent and based on this weeks editing I'm not sure I trust the repeat to be suitable viewing for the family, thoughts please.....

just wondring how did they explain a man kissing a man then? I wouldn't let my kids watch it if I had any!!
Hi Hellyon

Torchwood is not suitable for kids! There will be lots more violence and lots more boy kissing! Captain Jack is a saucy boy. Last series featured cannibals, peoples' heads being bitten off, sex, drugs and aliens who killed by shagging. If I had kids I wouldn't let them watch!

Let your son stick to Dr Who.
whats up with a man kissing a man that kids have to be protected from?
Why on earth do you think that a gay kiss is unsuitable for a 10 year old to see? Are you determined to bring him up as a homophobe? You're suggesting that he has no idea that gay men and women exist - what??? The most balanced and sorted kids are the ones for whom homosexuality is seen as perfectly normal at a much earlier age than 10 - just as skin colour and disability etc is no problem from them. Get real - and stop creating a monster.

I take your point SKA and Mormess as both Mr H and I watch Torchwood and have not let our son watch it in the past, however this was advertised as an edited repeated shown at 7pm and to quote Radio Times a couple of weeks ago 'suitable for children'. I was just surprised at how little had been taken out as BBC are very careful with their Doctor Who audience, and seem to be aware that some of them are quite young.

They explained the kiss as being not what you would expect but fitting in with the alien concept of Torchwood where nothing is quite as it seems.

Bednobs - it was a pretty passionate kiss, I don't feel that my 10 year old needs protecting, he understands about gay men, he was just a bit suprised that Captain Jack would kiss a boy, and I was surprised that it had been left in given the intended audience.

Quizmonkey - believe me I am not creating a monster, see my previous reply.
I think you will find it is the violence, sex and swearing that is cut or trimmed down.
It is on at 7pm, not 5pm. It should still be up to parents to monitor what they think is suitable for their own children.

I think you are probably right Tony - I just expected the edited version to be toned down to a Dr Who type level. I had no real problems with Episode 1 but I think Epsisode 2, unless heavily edited, will be too violent, I think I shall record the 'edited' version in future to see if it is suitable first.
I'm not against gay kissing by any means, but the kiss was passionate and then they proceeded to beat the proverbial out of each other!

From what I hear there's a lot more hanky-panky to come!
Oh no ! don't start this again, some ABers get a little touchy over this subject.

Here is one I posted earlier.

If you don`t like what`s shown on tv, change channels or turn it off. There are a lot who enjoy programmes others detest. If we all like the same things how dull that would be.
If I had kids it would be their religion... Infact, I would FORCE them to watch as much as possible...

(I wouldn't actually force them by the way... although...)

I'm out.
