Could someone please explain some clues to me? I have the answers - partly because some have already been answered on AB - but am at a loss to explain them. I really must buy a Chambers...

4a. Where does the second 'G' come from?
12a. I understand the 'secret' element and the 'American' but where do the 'travelling west' and 'touring globe' come in?
13d. Answer makes no sense to me at all...

Thanks in advance.

'her head' meaning the first letter of gal... for 4a
orb travelling west is bro... for 12a
And I can't explain 13d - beetle drive fitted (and that's how I still finish some crosswords!)
like ace bt I had trouble explaining 13d but beetle can mean a type of hammer and drive can mean spur...
Beetle is an old dice+drawing game - a beetle drive is a series of such games (think whist drive, etc..)
Chambers is best!
Another tip - references like going/travelling/from west can mean reading from right to left.
That last post - Should be 'to' west, not 'from' - sorry.
4a. g is the first letter of gal..."her head"
12a. from the left as=like then usa surrounding orb
13d. beetle is a tool that resembles a hammer and drive=spurs
