Cheap, cheerful bu not chavvy!

I'm fed up of holidaying in Britain after last summer's washout and this year my OH and I want to take our 3-yr-old daughter somewhere sunny, but not too hot, ideally in May. We don't want to be flying for long so think spain or Portugal may be the answer, but are not sure where to go. The thought of Benidorm or the Costa Brava fill us with dread - too busy and noisy - but have heard Menorca or Fuertaventura are a bit quieter. Can anyone recommend anything?

Have also been to Magaluf at the end of the season and found it ok, but Palma Nova is nicer or somewhere like Alcudia or Santa Ponsa. I found Majorca to be really clean and the people really friendly
