Cheap, cheerful bu not chavvy!

I'm fed up of holidaying in Britain after last summer's washout and this year my OH and I want to take our 3-yr-old daughter somewhere sunny, but not too hot, ideally in May. We don't want to be flying for long so think spain or Portugal may be the answer, but are not sure where to go. The thought of Benidorm or the Costa Brava fill us with dread - too busy and noisy - but have heard Menorca or Fuertaventura are a bit quieter. Can anyone recommend anything?

Try South Brittany in France around Carnac. Not a major tourist destination but with a bit of planning it shouldn't be much of a problem. It's quiet, warm and the beaches are very clean and safe or try the Channel Islands.

try some of the quieter areas around albufeira on the algarve such as around oura praia or fisherman's beach

Costa Brava won't be busy or noisy in May - nor too hot - but Menorca will bore you rigid!

I went to San Antonio Bay in Ibiza in May a couple of years ago and it was really nice, not to noisy and within walking distance of San Antonio itself. Have also been to Magaluf at the end of the season and found it ok, but Palma Nova is nicer or somewhere like Alcudia or Santa Ponsa. I found Majorca to be really clean and the people really friendly

I went to Mallorca in June '07 and the people were so friendly that at first I thought they were taking the mickey! They're not though - they go out of their way to be helpful.
