tax disc - i just dont understand!

why do they still send you little bits of paper that take you hours to get out of the perforations (why don' they just send it to you round anyway?) when they have all cars on record, and know which ones are taxed or sorned and which ones arent anyway and supposedly send you a fine if not so having the actual bit of paper is meanningless!

why cant it just be like a car park badge made out of that floppy plastic that just sticks to the windscreen if they have to have anything

It's easy, really - it keeps people in work. Just think how much easier it would be if road tax were scrapped and 10p put on a gallon of petrol - or 2p a litre if you prefer - thus everyone would pay according to their consumption.

As far as unisured vehicles are concerned the insurance companies could send you a screen sticker when you pay up and any cars found without taken away and crushed. No excuses - no exceptions - no problem.

Although the police can easily verify if your car has a valid tax from their central computer I dont believe parking wardens have the same facility to check. I agree about the perforations on a round disc, why don't they make a square one without the perforations?

I used to work for a car park company running long stay car parks.

Out of date tax discs were a useful way of identifying dumped cars.

I understand your frustrations and have in the past torn the edge off a bit too hastiliy after relying on the perforations to be better.

They should team up with the company that used to make lickable postage stamps and get the perforations spot on.
