lol is lol. It is at the mild end of lolling. Going up the scale you will come across PMSL, ROFL, and (caution) SMSL.

Another one very current is HTH? This was once amusing but has now been adopted as a mantra by a boring drunk and has had all the subtle humour wrung out of it.
