If I purchase a Sky+ Box privately does a Sky Engineer have to install it or can any suitable TV Engineer do it? Also what is the situation regarding connection? Many Thanks for any replies.

It also has to have a new component on the dish, called a LNB. You have to replace a single LNB with a double LNB (so it can pick up the two Sky signals to send down the two cables).
I also think you need a new Sky card so they can register the fact you have a Sky+ box (I am not certain of this, but I certainly had to have a new card when I went to Sky+)

Hi,
If you buy a Sky box privatley you are free to install it yourself, or pay for someone to do it. You will need to buy a viewing card (subscription) from Sky for it to work properly though. From Sky itself 149 or 99 online for installation and equipment

I already have the Dual LNB and Dual Cable fitted but am reluctant to pay the 60 installation fee because of this. I rang Sky and to say they were unhelpful would be an understatement, it looks as though I am going to have to go with them for installation, as they do seem to hold all the aces regarding there products.
I would be surprised if Sky would do the installation even if you offer to pay.
About 4 months ago my mum gave me her Sky + box (only 6 months old).As an existing Sky Customer I thought it would be just a matter of contacting Sky to se how much they charge for an engineer to come and set up the connection.Sky flatly refused to do this as I did not purchase the box direct from them, and they told me I would either need to buy a new box from them or pay a local company to do the installation for me, which would cost more than Sky doing the instal even f I bought a new box from them.
At the moment I am using my Sky plus box as a standard digi box, but I suppose I will have to buy a new box from Sky if I want Sky +
As already mentioned. you will need to upgrade your Sky card, whch can be done over the phone (this is about the only thing Sky would willingly do for me)

Hi 'everhelpful' .....if you have a dual LNB fitted with two cables with the correct fi plug termination you do not need any special installlation .... the two aerial feeds from the LNB are just connected to the sky+ box . Connect a scart terminated cable between the sky+ box and the tv and you are there. You of course must have a sky card in the box that has been validated by sky to receive sky+.
It's as simple as that ...I know, because I have done it.
