can anyone tell me about any pitfalls etc about buying a resteraunt-bar in canaries? any help much appreciated

In tenerife i can tell you most.As for gran canaria its similar apart from the fact the only growth in bar trade in gran canaria is in the gay bar area.The government there is actively promoting gay friendly bars and hotels.If thats not your particular idea then perhaps rethink.Do you have any experience and can you talk spanish?Owning bars is a very difficult business and full of pit falls.

thanks nlegend...no i do not spk spanish...ive expirience in owning bar in thailand but i guess its not the same...ive 60,000 gbp to invest ...i can go to school to learn spanish and i know ill learn well....wot type things shuld i lok out for? i dont really care wot type of bar i buy gay or not if it makes me a small living and keeps me there then ill be happy wotever..
I have no personal experience of this sort of thing but there is much talk, including in the media, that outsiders (i.e. non-nationals) find themselves linking with their fellow nationals and end up duped, ripped off, etc. by them. The message always seems to be not to rely on expatriates (your own nationality or others) in the area or who have any vested interests.
