does anyone know how often you should need your brake pads/discs replaced. i bought a brand new mini 2 years ago and had them replaced after a year and my lights just come on agan now!!

No, they don't, depends how you drive it.
Hi, jrobinson, Have you check your brake fluid? that will let you know your fluid is low and needs topping up to the mark on the side,

For replacing your brake's will all depend on your driving, and how hard you use the brake's,

your disc's will be ok for a good few year's,
If it is a brand new mini, I'm presuming the light you are on about is the brake pad wear warning light and not the handbrake/low fluid level light. If you can look at the brake pads front/rear, inner and outer and they look ok, then you probably have a fault with the wiring that attaches to one of your pads. You probably have a wire damaged and it is shorting out on a suspension component or bodywork somewhere. The best thing to do first is to have a quick look with the front wheels on full lock. Up to you if you delve in deeper, depending on what you find. There is no shelf life etc on brake discs and pads. Although a check every six months would be a good idea,depending on usage etc
