A 'mashing' is the name given to the process of mixing malt and warm water to create wort as part of the brewing process. I'm not sure how you would get that into a bag, though perhaps the useless residue left after the process is completed might be so treated. My guess, therefore, is that 'a bag of mashings' means anything pretty useless...along the lines of 'a load of rubbish'.
