Hi, I am planning to trade in my car with a private plate and am wondering about the procedure to transfer the plate to the new (used) car. I have read the V317 form but it implies that you need to submit the reg documents and insurance certificates for both donor and receiving vehicles just to apply for the certificate of transfer. Is this something the dealer would sort out or are you expected to chase around to the dvla office on the day you collect to new car ? I would value a reply from normanthedog who knows about these things :-) TIA.
your dealer might do it for you, just ask him.otherwise you will have to do it,there are 2 ways, either put the number on retention from your car,and then put it on the new car at a later date, when you have the new V5,or just transfer it to the new car,but be aware both vehicles have to have a current MOT and both have to be taxed,or in the case of new car,tax paid for at time of transfer, insurance cert does not have to be produced at all
Thanks Norman for the info. I thought the easiest way was to put the plate on retention and put it on the new vehicle later but I believe there is an additional 105 to do this and then another 80 fee to put it on the vehicle.
