I'm considering paying somebody local to do my ironing. What should I expect to pay per hour. I'm in the Midlands.

I have never had someone iron for me, although from what I have heard, companies normally charge per item or on weight, not by the hour.

If you are just thinking of employing somebody to do it for you privately I would say 6.50-7.50 per hour depending on where you live.

Not a waste of money at all- if I wasnt such a tight Northerner I'd pay someone to do my ironing too, I ruddy detest doing it.
You pay by the weight/amount of clothes, not by the hour.
Depends

Some charge by the lb/kg, others by the item
I would say you could expect to pay around 10-12 for 2 loads
It's lucrative work if you can get it - I used ot take in ironing working for someone else and remember doing not a lot of iorning for quite a few pence

Probably an hourly rate if you have someone in - minimum wage is around 5.60ph

Thankyou for your replies, I shall weigh my pile and try to work out how long it would take me.
I would do any household job you can name rather than iron. I would also go out and clean other peoples houses to pay for it if I had to. Horrible, detestable job!!!

I pay by the item. It is collected and delivered back regularly and I don't begrudge what I spend on it. It is my one luxury in life.
I used to be a cleaner and do the ironing , this is the s.e coast , and got 9 per hour ,but I'm an ex drycleaner , also the people were professionals so their kit had to look the
bizz , so not a clue about the Midlands .
I pay 7.50 an hour to a local au pair to do ironing. I live on the edge of London it's a very good price for around here. People only weigh or charge per item if it is leaving the house.
Hi - I'm an "ironing lady" near Ashford in Kent and I do charge by the hour (7.50). I get plenty done - more than my customers would and like another poster said - it's luxury so generally they don't mind paying for it. Loads of returning customers so must be ok.
Im in the Midlands and theres an ad in our local paper by someone charging 10 per laundry basket.
We live in the north east. My daughter does ironing for a doctor, so ther are literally loads of shirts. She uses her own iron because his isn't very good. He pays her 7.50 an hour but gives her 40.00 for 5 hours work, he is so thankful. He has a wife and family but his wife refuses to do it because he is so particular. The only thing is if you pay by the hour you must have someone who you know will not take advantage by dawdling.
